The annual Inc. 5000 list represents a one-of-a-kind look at America’s most successful, fast-growing private companies within the economy’s most dynamic segments. As noted by Inc. Media editor-in-chief Scott Omelianuk, “Being on the Inc. 5000 means you’re among the top 0.07% of companies in the country in terms of growth.”

The Selection Process

As business mogul and renowned investor Kevin O’Leary notes, the annual Inc. 5000 list “starts with around 7 million companies that distills down to about 5000.”

So how does Inc. Media decide those top tier businesses? To start with, companies under consideration must be based in the U.S., privately held, for-profit, and independent—not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies as of December 31, 2021. The minimum revenue required for 2018 is $100,000; the minimum for 2021 is $2 million. 

Getting into more specifics, companies on the 2022 Inc. 5000 list are ranked according to percentage revenue growth from 2018 to 2021. Growth rates used to determine company rankings were calculated to four decimal places. Past that, the vision, persistence, and innovative spirit of leaders and companies are also taken into account.

“It takes special skill, serious determination, and smart operating to reach this milestone,” says Scott Omelianuk.

Making Waves

The companies on the 2022 Inc. 5000 list have not only been successful, but have also demonstrated resilience amid supply chain problems, labor shortages, and other fallout from Covid-19.
