Who Are The Women Who Inspire You?
For our next installment of the “Meet the Women of ShipMonk Q&A,” we asked a few female team members who inspire us here at ShipMonk: “Who inspires you, and why?” Here’s what they said. (Spoiler alert: Grandma wins big.)
“Who Inspires You, and Why?”
Christine Warren, VP of Client Success
“My grandmother. She was the head of marketing for apparel brands in the fashion district of NY back in the 50’s. It was unusual back then for women to have high powered jobs like hers. I worked in eCommerce with a number of fashion brands in NY, and like to think that I’ve followed in her footsteps.”
Melissa Marotta, Sales Manager
“Megan Rapinoe and team in fighting for Equal Pay in US Soccer. Why? They fought long and hard for 6 years in court for equality. Though they were rejected several times, they did not give up, nor did they allow their athletic performance to degrade. This wasn’t about the actual monetary value, but instead the principle of equality.”
Chelsea Williams-Fox, Human Resources
“I would have to say that the person who has most greatly inspired me has been my grandmother. She always had a smile on her face no matter how hard she worked, and she loved everyone. She was well respected and always gave more than she received. I’ll never forget all her funny jokes. My grandmother never let anyone see her stress. Her home was our safe haven.”
Malicia Perlman, HR Manager
“There are so many inspiring women it would be unfair to only pick one. From Michelle Obama to Sheryl Sandberg or Sara Blakely and Arianna Huffington, these women are examples of successful leaders within their respective industries and have had an incredible impact on making space for women in business.”
Kathryn Andrews, Marketing Operations Manager
“My maternal grandmother (who I am the namesake of) inspires me as a continual learner, adapting to anything life hands her! She is one of the strongest, most independent women I’ve ever known. Not only did she raise 7 children, she also held impressive careers during a time when women were not as prevalent in the workforce. Turning 95 this year, she continues to impress and amaze me – she doesn’t miss a beat and is the only grandmother I know who has thoroughly integrated the use of her iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch into her life.”
Inbar Presman, Quality and Safety
“Serena Williams. She is a world champion, a winner, and even won the Australian Open while she was 2 months pregnant!”
Kerry Neysmith, Onboarding Director
“The ‘Notorious RBG’ inspires me, and generations of women, because of her many historic academic and professional achievements. Driven by her personal experiences with sexism, she fought tirelessly for gender equality and was instrumental in passing several laws in an effort to achieve gender equality in the United States, while balancing motherhood and caring for a sick husband.” — “Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.” – Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
